In the past 12 months, WISE staff served 373 clients through outreach services including legal advocacy and the 24 hour crisis hotline. The shelter in Big Rapids housed 74 individuals and provided 2,880 safe bed nights to shelter residents; served 8,640 meals and used over 4,000 diapers for children taking refuge at the shelter. The intensive services provide more than just a shelter – they are customized to meet the needs of the victims in Mecosta, Osceola, and Newaygo counties.

Today, we are launching our Giving Tuesday campaign so that we can help more people live a life free from violence. Giving Tuesday was founded in 2012 and is a global day of giving, raising funds, and generating awareness that harnesses the collective power of individuals and organizations to improve their communities.

We would like to invite you to support WISE as we work to meet our mission of providing crisis intervention and support services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and sex trafficking. WISE Giving Day is December 1, 2020.

We have already received pledges in the amount of $4,000 to match the funds that are donated! Make your donation go farther by donating to WISE for Giving Tuesday! Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are not hosting an in-person event this year. All donations received between now and December 1st will be counted toward our Giving Tuesday fundraising goal of $18,000 and will be eligible for a matching donation! If you would like to make a donation, you can donate online or you can mail a check to WISE at PO Box 1249, Big Rapids, MI 49307.

WISE recently worked with a client, who we will call Sarah. Sarah is a mom with three young children. Sarah moved away from her family, church, and friends a few years ago for her husband’s job. Sarah’s husband seemed to be a charming, loving man, but things turned physically violent after they moved away. After an exceptionally violent outburst, Sarah waited for her husband to leave for work, she packed up her children, and headed home to Michigan.

Sarah contacted WISE once she returned home, and we brought her into shelter, assisted with legal protection, and provided the protection and safety she needed for her and her children. In time, Sarah found affordable safe housing, new employment, childcare, and obtained full custody of her children. Sarah has recently shared with us how she and her children are thriving and thanked WISE for being there in her hour of need.

At WISE, we believe empowering clients is our core mission. Because of the dynamic of domestic and sexual abuse, our clients often come to us feeling hopeless, scared, and confused by the systems they need to access in order to break free from the cycle of abuse. WISE advocates were able to guide Sarah through the logistics of moving forward and provide her with the support and assurance she needed to feel confident in making positive changes in her life. Every day, your support makes stories like Sarah’s possible.

If just a portion of your annual donations this year go to WISE, your generosity will assist families to heal and start over. WISE truly appreciates the generosity of all its supporters and we depend on your donations to continue our mission and make our vision a reality. If you have any questions or would like more information you can send emails to donate@wiseagainstviolence.org.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!
